Mandolinist Randall Franks, "Officer Randy Goode" from TV's "In the Heat of the Night," joins Atlanta bluegrass banjo stylist Jim "Duck" Adkins of Cedar Hill to enlighten some students at Westside Elementary School in Cedartown, Ga. about the music of Appalachia. Adkins (www.duck-wave.com) began performing with Cedar Hill in 1976 and created one of the most entertaining bands in the genre with his fellow band members. He also appears with Atlanta BlueGrace, a Christian Bluegrass Band which started at his home church Grace Community Church of Marietta.
This performance occured in 1986 and when both Franks and Adkins were serving as vice president and president, respectively, of the SouthEastern Bluegrass Association. Randall was still performing primarily with his Peachtree Pickers along with appearances with Doodle and the Golden River Grass, the Marksmen Quartet and guest appearances with Bill Monroe and his Blue Grass Boys.

The Australasian Bluegrass & Old Time Music Association was founded in Harrietville on 27 April 2013, at the site where, for more than 20 years, musicians have gathered to play and share music at the foot of Mount Hotham in the Victorian Alps. ABOTMA has commenced building affiliations with bluegrass & old time music organisations, teachers, and performers within the region and internationally, and in particular with the USA where these music forms originated. Over time, an Australasian ‘flavour’ will no doubt develop as the music evolves through local influences. The broad mission of ABOTMA Inc. is to support the teaching, performance, and promotion of bluegrass & old time music.
